The rule for a Wegovy pill missed dose is short: skip the tablet you missed and take your normal dose the next day. The UK patient leaflet and the prescriber-facing Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) say the same thing. Because the tablet is only ever taken one a day, never take two to make up for it.

What does the leaflet say about a Wegovy pill missed dose?
Section 3 of the UK patient leaflet, last revised in June 2026, says that if you forget a dose you should skip it and just take your normal dose the next day. Section 4.2 of the SmPC gives prescribers the same rule. Unlike the weekly injection, there is no “take it as soon as you remember” option: a forgotten day is simply a day without a tablet.
Why skip it rather than take it later?
The leaflet does not give its reasoning, but the way the tablet is taken shows why a late dose is hard to fit in. The UK product information says to take it on an empty stomach after a recommended fast of at least 8 hours, swallow it whole with a sip of water (up to 120 ml), then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines.
Those conditions exist because so little gets in. The SmPC estimates only about 1% to 2% of an oral dose is absorbed; food or a large volume of water reduces absorption, and longer fasting before and after the dose increases it. Remembered later in the day? The rule still applies, so skip it: the leaflet offers no late dose, even if you fast again. Unsure whether today’s dose counts as missed? Ask your pharmacist.
How long semaglutide stays in your body
The SmPC gives semaglutide a half-life of about a week: steady levels take 4 to 5 weeks of daily dosing to build, and the medicine stays in the circulation for roughly 5 to 7 weeks after the last 25 mg tablet. So levels do not drop to nothing after one skipped day, although the product information does not say how a missed day affects results (see how the Wegovy pill works).
The SmPC still recommends sticking to the dosing regimen for the best effect, so tell your prescriber if you miss doses regularly.
Why you should never double up
The SmPC says oral semaglutide is always used as only one tablet per day, and more than one tablet should not be taken to get the effect of a higher dose. The leaflet says the same.
The leaflet says to talk to your doctor straight away, and warns that you may feel sick. The NHS semaglutide page advises getting help from NHS 111 if you have had more than your packet, leaflet or prescription says.
What if you took it, but got the routine wrong?
Even if the routine went wrong, the one-tablet-a-day rule still applies, so do not take a second one. Three slips to know about:
- Eating or drinking too soon: the leaflet says waiting less than 30 minutes lowers the absorption of semaglutide.
- Taking it with other tablets: in an SmPC study, taking it with five other tablets cut exposure to semaglutide by 34%. Other oral medicines belong after the 30-minute wait.
- Being sick soon afterwards: the leaflet does not say what to do, so ask your pharmacist. It does warn that vomiting and diarrhoea can cause dehydration, so drink enough fluids. Severe stomach pain that does not go away, with or without being sick, can be a sign of pancreatitis: the leaflet says to stop taking it and get urgent medical help.
What if you have missed several days?
Neither the leaflet nor the SmPC has a separate rule for a run of missed doses, or for restarting. After several days off, ask your prescriber or pharmacist how to carry on, including which dose to restart on.
That matters most part-way up the dose steps (1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg, then 25 mg, with at least a month at each); our dosage steps guide explains the schedule. Any change of dose is your prescriber’s decision, and the leaflet says not to stop the medicine without talking to your doctor.
How the tablet rule differs from the weekly injection
If you have used semaglutide injections, do not carry that rule over:

If your prescriber moves you from the 2.4 mg weekly injection to the 25 mg tablet, the SmPC says tablets can start one week after your last injection, but cautions that the effect of switching cannot easily be predicted, because absorption from the tablet varies more. Practical ways to miss fewer doses
- Keep tablets in their pack. The leaflet says to store them in the original package, away from light and moisture, so a weekly pill organiser is not a good fit. A tick on a calendar or phone app helps you check whether today’s tablet has gone.
- Tie it to the end of your fast. The NHS says to take semaglutide tablets as soon as you wake up, after at least 8 hours without food. Our dosage page sets out the full daily routine.
- Plan your supply. At the time of writing (September 2026), the tablet is available in the UK only on private prescription, so check how repeats work well before your pack runs out. Never fill a gap from a seller that does not ask for a prescription, or with an unlicensed “compounded” product.
